La entrada de más de 200 mil millones de dólares en productos provenientes de China al mercado estadounidense, podría traer consecuencias negativas al lanzamiento de las nuevas generaciones de consolas de Sony y Microsoft, las cuales serían el PlayStation 5 (sin nombre oficial aún) y Project Scarlett, respectivamente.

Un proceso en el que la Oficina de Representación Comercial de los Estados Unidos realizó audiencias sobre los nuevos aranceles, estableció que dentro de esta enorme cantidad de productos podrían incluirse consolas de videojuegos, lo cual no solo afectaría el precio del hardware, sino que los cambios también podrían afectar a todo el ecosistema de los videojuegos en sí, hasta a consolas antiguas.

El estudio realizado por dicha oficina también indicó que hasta se podría hablar de que los usuarios llegarían a pagar un 25% más de lo que se planeaba inicialmente. «Un aumento de precio del 25% probablemente pondrá una nueva consola de videojuegos fuera del alcance de muchas familias estadounidenses que esperamos estén en el mercado para esta temporada de vacaciones», indica el texto.

Sony, Microsoft y Nintendo han manifestado su preocupación por el tema en una carta en conjunto, por lo cual solicitan la exoneración en sus nuevos productos. Después de contabilizar los nuevos ingresos arancelarios, se estima que podría existir hasta una pérdida neta de $350 millones para la economía estadounidense.
