Las primeras reacciones de Doctor Sleep ya llegaron. La adaptación de la secuela de ‘The Shining’ llega a los cines en noviembre pero ya algunos críticos han podido observarla para dar sus valoraciones.
Esta película está basada en la novela homónima del escritor Stephen King, pero funciona también como una secuela al libro original y a la película de Stanley Kubrick de 1980. Escrita y dirigida por Mike Flanagan, Doctor Sleep nos muestra a Ewan McGregor en el papel adulto de Danny Torrance tras haberse convertido en un alcohólico en sus esfuerzos por suprimir sus poderes y lidiar con el trauma de su pasado.
Danny emprende un viaje a un pequeño pueblo de Massachusetts donde se une a un grupo de apoyo y usa sus habilidades para consolar a los moribundos en un hospicio local. Sin embargo, cuando una joven busca su ayuda para luchar contra un culto malvado que se aprovecha de niños con poderes, Danny se da cuenta de que para ayudarla debe confrontar sus miedos y traumas.
La mayoría de las primeras reacciones coinciden en que la película es una digna secuela de las versiones de King y Kubrick de The Shining. Rebecca Ferguson interpreta a la villana y su actuación también se destaca como uno de los mejores elementos, si no el mejor elemento de la película en general. Por su parte, las quejas parecen dirigidas a los intentos del Doctor Sleep de recrear la iconografía y las imágenes más famosas de The Shining de Kubrick específicamente.
