En octubre de 2018 el escritor polaco de la saga de Geralt de Rivia, Andrzej Sapkowski, había entablado una nueva demanda por las ganancias de los juegos basados en su obra que ha sacado la compañía CD Projekt Red. Según él, el trato original era muy injusto tomando en cuenta el súper éxito de los videojuegos.

Luego de un año en una disputa legal que no se había hecho tan pública, pues el escritor se había comprometido a estar dispuesto a resolver el asunto de manera amigable y hasta silenciosa, por fin ambas partes lograron cerrar un trato que los satisfizo lo suficiente.

El nuevo acuerdo reafirma el título existente de propiedad intelectual de ‘The Witcher’ en el desarrollo de videojuegos, novelas gráficas, juegos de mesa y mercadería. Nosotros siempre he admirado las obras del Sr. Andrzej Sapokowski, una gran inspiración para el equipo de CD Projekt Red. Creo que hoy marca una nueva etapa en nuestra relación continua.

Sapkowski reconoció su error al haber dado la licencia en un único pago y no en un sistema de regalías, como le había ofrecido CD Projekt al inicio, pues a su parecer no creía que los juegos llegaran a ser tan exitosos como finalmente resultaron. El nuevo acuerdo seguirá reafirmando la colaboración entre ambos por un tiempo indefinido.
