Aunque One Piece sea una serie de ficción sin duda ha tomado eventos del mundo real como inspiración para algunas de sus sagas mas famosas, en este caso les voy a presentar algunos datos interesantes del mas reciente arco en la serie, el país de Wano. Es importante aclarar que este articulo posee spoilers de los capítulos mas recientes de la serie.

Primero que nada el arco narrativo de Wano esta dividido en 5 actos bien establecidos por el narrador, esta estructura es compartida por el teatro tradicional Japones Kabuki, que retrata historias reales o fantasías y de hecho muchos japoneses. Ya se sabía de antemano que Kanjuro sería mas adelante un traidor, pues su vestimenta es literalmente la de un actor del teatro Kabuki interpretando un papel en la obra, así que dedujeron de ahí que ese no seria su verdadera personalidad

Por otra parte tenemos el Bushido, este término es muy amplio, pero sobre simplificando era un estilo de vida que los samurái acuñaron principalmente después de haber concluido los enfrentamientos de la guerra de unificación de Japón que fue iniciada por Oda Nobunaga y terminada por su antiguo consejero Ieyasu Tokugawa y que brindaría casi 4 siglos de relativa paz entre las diferentes provincias de Japón, por lo tanto al no haber tantos conflictos bélicos como antes, los samurái invertían su tiempo en el estudio de la espada y la filosofía, el bushido acuña principios de lealtad hacia su maestro y mantener su honor, aun si eso significa la muerte y que como vemos los vasallos de Oden tratan de cumplir.


Solo hemos visto una referencia al Seppoku o suicidio honorable que practicaban los samurái cuando su código de honor se veía vulnerado y esto pasa cuando Zoro es capturado, sin embargo, esto no solía pasar así, ya que este ritual estaba reservado para los japoneses y si la persona era ajena a esta cultura dicho ritual carecía de significado, por lo que cabe pensar en la teoría de que Zoro realmente proviene de Wano; eso porque ll conflicto con Kaido fue 20 años atrás y Zoro tiene 21, por lo que alguien pudo haberlo sacado de la isla, además, normalmente un samurái portaba dos espadas, la larga la cual era considerada para ataque y defensa y la corta para la autodestrucción o el Seppoku; ahora bien, cuando lo vemos empuñar esta espada la utiliza para atacar a los demás, esto podría ser un presagio de que el uso extenso de Enma sea autodestructivo para Zoro.


En gran parte de arco ha estado presente la estética del Japón feudal y en mucho de este ambiente se nota la inspiración tomada de películas de Akira Kurosawa, el padre del cine moderno de acción, este señor creo las películas de Samurái mas recordadas como Yujimbo y Los 7 Samurái, esta ultima inclusive siendo referencia al mismo arco donde un grupo reducido de guerreros defienden una villa que es atacada por bandidos.


Con respecto a Kosuki Oden, parece tener un gran parecido con el mito de Miyamoto Musashi, quien fue un samurái legendario conocido por utilizar dos katanas y era ingenioso en sus estrategias de combate. También fue un importante escritor de algunos caminos del bushido los cuales fueron heredados a sus discípulos, haciendo quizá referencia al diario que hereda Mononosuke. Otra referencia es la de Ishikawa Goemon, un guerrero que fue a rescatar a su familia pero fue atrapado y condenado a morir hirviendo, este logra salvar a su hijo sosteniéndolo en el aire.

Como último dato, sin duda gran parte de este conflicto está basado en el periodo histórico japonés conocido como la Era Meiji, donde después de varios siglos de un nacionalismo extremo y donde Japón mantenía sus fronteras cerradas a casi todo el resto del mundo, la revolución logró destronar al establecido Shogunato Tokugawa empezando la restauración Meiji, con una serie de reglas que buscaban una sociedad mas abierta al dialogo. En este contexto se abren los puertos a holandeses, americanos, ingleses y otras naciones, lo que propulsó el crecimiento económico de Japón rápidamente.
