Sin embargo, este año en particular, sucedió algo que nunca antes se había presentado, el hecho de que una película que en su momento ha llevado el título de «más taquillera» no haya ganado un solo premio de La Academia. El título es para la película ‘Avengers: Endgame’, última entrega de Los Vengadores.
Anteriormente películas que fueron portadoras de la mayor recaudación a nivel mundial como ‘Gone With the Wind’, ‘The Sound of Music’, ‘The Godfather’, ‘Jaws’, ‘Star Wars’, ‘ET: The Extra-Terrestrial’, ‘Jurassic Park’, ‘Titanic’ y ‘Avatar’ habían recibido una o varias estatuillas, incluso hasta la de Mejor Director y Mejor Película.
Este año ‘Avengers: Endgame’ recibió una sola nominación al Oscar, la cual fue de Mejores Efectos Visuales. Y, a pesar de que muchos creían que quizá era esta (o ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’) la posible ganadora, el premio les fue arrebatado por la película bélica ‘1917’ del director Sam Mendes.
