Probablemente alguna vez han topado en redes sociales o en internet alguno de estos webcomics donde un par de aliens celestes tienen conversaciones en un planeta lejano muy similar a la Tierra. Strange Planet describe a los seres humanos a la perfección, de una manera muy graciosa, con terminología muy técnica como llamarle «mal funcionamiento del rostro» a llorar, o «vibraciones que afectan las emociones» a la música.
El escritor e ilustrador, se unirá a Dan Harmon para crear una serie animada con Apple Studios. Según informa The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ ha hecho una pedido de 10 episodios para una serie animada basada en el webcomic, que fue lanzado en 2019, y se popularizó rápidamente, lo cual llevó a Pyle a sacar un libro ese mismo año y otro en 2020. La serie contará historias profundas y sentidas sobre seres en un planeta distante no muy diferente al nuestro.
Strange Planet será producida internamente en Apple Studios junto con la productora de animación ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Final Space). Amalia Levari será la showrunner. Harmon será acreditado como co-creador junto a Pyle en la serie. Ambos serán productores ejecutivos junto a Levari. Alex Bulkley y Corey Campodonico serán los productores ejecutivos de ShadowMachine junto a Steve Levy y la esposa de Pyle, Taylor Alexy Pyle.
Harmon es conocido por ser el creador de Community y Rick and Morty. Levari es escritora en la serie animada Over the Garden Wall, la cual le ganó un Emmy en 2015. Por su parte, Pyle ha publicado múltiples libros en la lista de más vendidos de New York Times.
