La era de la recreación live-action sigue viva en Disney y ahora es el turno de Mulán de llegar a la pantalla. Mucho se ha hablado y especulado sobre la película desde que fue anunciada. Que si tendrá música, que si no tendrá música, que quién será su actriz, que quién la dirigirá. Parece que la única pregunta que nadie se está haciendo es la más importante de todas. ¿Va a salir Mushu? Porque si la respuesta es no, vamos a tener que desear mucho deshonor sobre más de un par de vacas en Hollywood.
Lo bueno es que al menos parece que el proyecto va viento en popa, y finalmente la producción ha logrado encontrar a la actriz que representará a Fa Mulan en la pantalla. Se trata de Liu Yifei, también conocida como Crystal Liu, a quien en el mundo occidental conocemos mejor por sus representaciones en The Forbidden Kingdom junto a Jet Li y Jackie Chan, así como su papel en Outcast al lado de Nicolas Cage y Hayden Christensen.
En su natal China, Liu ha trabajado más recientemente en filmes románticos como The Chinese Widow y Once Upon a Time, que junto con su imagen y aspecto puros e inocentes le han traído el sobrenombre de «Fairy Sister» o Hermana Hada, lo cual resulta muy adecuado para su incorporación al reino de las princesas de Walt.
La búsqueda de la actriz que lograría convertirse tanto en la mujer que salvó a China, como en un completo hombre de acción, tampoco fue tarea fácil. Casi 1000 actrices de todos los 5 continentes habitados en el mundo acudieron al llamado para el casting. Los requisitos consistían en tener cualidad de estrella, la habilidad de hablar inglés y un entrenamiento al menos creíble en artes marciales. Asumimos que ser de origen chino, o al menos del este asiático, también era un requisito indispensable.
Afortunadamente para Liu, ella vivió durante su infancia en Queens, Nueva York y tiene experiencia actuando en inglés. Tendremos que esperar a que la producción esté más avanzada para confirmar lo de las artes marciales. No obstante, estamos seguros de que Mulan será una película increíble. En especial porque su directora Niki Caro confirmó hace un tiempo que el filme sí tendría música. Ahora, insisto, ¿hasta cuándo nos tendrá en vela con lo de Mushu?
