El sorpresivo éxito de KPop Demon Hunters, la pulida y vibrante película animada producida por Sony Pictures Animation y estrenada en Netflix el pasado 20 de junio, está escribiendo un capítulo inesperado en su historia: una edición especial en cines, solo por un fin de semana, que promete poner al público a cantar junto a las heroínas en la pantalla grande.

El fenómeno que eclipsó las expectativas

Desde su lanzamiento en la plataforma, KPop Demon Hunters se convirtió en un fenómeno inmediato, acumulando 158,8 millones de reproducciones, posicionándose como la animación original más vista de Netflix hasta la fecha. Su impacto global se extiende a más de 93 países, donde ha permanecido por semanas en el top 10.

Pero uno de los mayores logros del filme ha sido su música. El sencillo “Golden”, interpretado por las ficticias Huntr/x (Ejae, Audrey Nuna y Rei Ami), se ha convertido en toda una sensación: llegó al número 1 en la lista Billboard Hot 100, siendo la primera canción femenina en lograrlo desde Destiny’s Child en 2001, y la primera de una película animada desde Encanto. Una experiencia única en cines… pero limitada

Netflix ha decidido capitalizar este éxito organizando una proyección teatral del film en formato «sing-along», es decir, al estilo karaoke: el público podrá entonar sus canciones favoritas directamente desde la sala de cine. Esta experiencia única tendrá lugar el 23 y 24 de agosto, solo en EE.UU. y Canadá, y en cines selectos — algunas grandes cadenas como AMC no participarán—.

¿Por qué Netflix da este paso?

Netflix casi nunca lanza sus producciones en salas tradicionales. Según un vocero de la empresa, no revelaron mucho más aparte del anuncio, pero la jugada deja claro que están experimentando con nuevas formas de extender el alcance de sus éxitos.

Este movimiento también representa una especie de duelo simbólico con Disney: mientras su última animación original, Elio, tuvo una taquilla moderada, Netflix se lanza a un terreno dominado por rivales como Disney, llevando su contenido musical y familiar directamente a las salas, aunque sea de forma limitada.

El éxito de KPop Demon Hunters va más allá de un estreno. Elenco, directores y guionistas —como Maggie Kang y Chris Appelhans— están elaborando planes de expansión. Netflix estudia varios caminos: secuencias animadas, una serie derivada, cortometrajes adicionales, adaptaciones teatrales… incluso una versión live-action podría estar en camino.

KPop Demon Hunters ha logrado algo raro en el mundo de los lanzamientos streaming: convertirse en un fenómeno cultural con presencia en la pantalla grande. Su proyección sing-along de fin de semana es una celebración colectiva, un evento para fans que desean más que ver: quieren cantar y vivir esa vibra pop en vivo.

Y esto es solo el comienzo. Con el respaldo de números récord, planes de expansión masiva y un fandom global listo para unir voces y coreografías, el universo de KPop Demon Hunters promete crecer.
