Después de un año sumamente difícil para el cine y la televisión, nos acercamos a la esperada temporada de premios. Los Golden Globes reconocerán las producciones más destacadas del 2020, y ya anunciaron a sus nominados, entre ellos, una película guatemalteca.

Se trata de «La Llorona» del director Jayro Bustamante, que estará compitiendo en la categoría de mejor película extranjera. La cinta suma esta nominación a una larga lista de logros que viene cosechando. Fue estrenada en el 2019 Toronto International Film Festival. Recientemente también fue nominada a los Satellite Awards en la misma categoría. Además se encuentra entre las mejores 100 películas de Rotten Tomatoes y Rolling Stone, ganó el Premio del Director Giornate degli Autori en Venecia, Italia, recibió 9 premios en el Festival Ícaro, y fue premiada como la mejor película en lengua no inglesa de la Boston Society of Film Critics. En nuestro país también recibió el premio especial del jurado durante el Costa Rica Festival Internacional de Cine 2020.

«La Llorona» trata el tema del genocidio maya que ocurrió en la década de los 80s durante la Guerra civil de Guatemala y lo enlaza con la historia de la leyenda que ya todos conocemos, una madre que llora por sus hijos, solo que esta vez no fue ella quien los asesinó. La película compite contra «Another round» (Dinamarca), «Minari» (Estados Unidos), «The life ahead» (Italia) y «Two of Us» (Francia, Estados Unidos).

La ceremonia número 78 de los Globos de Oro se llevará a cabo el 28 de febrero, casi dos meses de su fecha usual, debido a los efectos del Covid-19. La premiación será en directo y de forma híbrida. Por acá pueden ver la lista completa de nominados.
