La noche del pasado domingo 17 de setiembre se llevó a cabo la entrega de los 69° Premios Emmys, ceremonia que galardona lo mejor de la televisión.
Para esta ocasión, la serie de ciencia ficción de HBO Westworld y la comedia de sketches Saturday Night Live estaban entre las más nominadas, cada una con 22 nominaciones.
The Handmaid’s Tale, producción de Hulu, se convirtió en la primer serie de televisión web en ganar el premio a Mejor Serie de Drama. El servicio de streaming también ganó su primer Emmy en la categoría de Mejor Actriz en Serie de Drama para Elisabeth Moss, por su trabajo en The Handmaid’s Tale.
Por su parte, Netflix obtuvo galardones en la categoría de Mejor Guión de Comedia por el episodio «Thanksgiving» de Master of None y Mejor Miniserie o Película para Televisión por el episodio «San Junipero» de Black Mirror.
Fue una noche de «primeras veces». Además de estos reconocimientos para los servicios de streaming, Donald Glover se convirtió en el primer afroamericano en ganar el premio al Mejor Director en una Serie de Comedia. El premio de Mejor Guión de Comedia que recibió Master of None fue recibido por Aziz Ansari y Lena Waithe, convirtiendo a Waithe en la primer mujer afroamericana en recibir este premio. Riz Ahmed se convirtió en el primer hombre de Asia del Sur en recibir un Emmy por actuación gracias a su papel en The Night Of .
Para otros como Julia Louis-Dreyfus más bien fue una noche igual que cualquier otra noche de Emmys. Como ya es usual, la actriz de Veep ganó su sexto premio consecutivo como Mejor Actriz Principal en una Serie de Comedia, gracias a su interpretación de Selina Meyer.
Si se extrañan de no ver a Game of Thrones en ninguna categoría (serie que se suele llevar gran cantidad de estos premios cada año) esto se debe a que la pasada temporada de la serie se transmitió entre el 16 de julio y el 27 de agosto de este año, y los Emmys toman en cuenta series cuyos episodios estuvieran publicados entre el 1 de junio del 2016 y el 31 de mayo del 2017. El año pasado la serie sí cumplió con el periodo establecido para los premios del 2016 y se llevó a casa 12 premios.
Los Emmys también tiene una premiación aparte para las Artes Creativas. En esta se reconocen lo mejor en series documentales, animadas, cinematografía, arte, vestuario, música y maquillaje entre otros.
La artista costarricense Cristina Himiob obtuvo el premio al Mejor Maquillaje Protésico para una serie, una serie limitada, una película o un especial por su trabajo en el episodio Roanoke de American Horror Story. Himiob reside en Los Angeles y es parte de la compañía compañía AFX Studio-Makeup FX. Recibió el premio junto con otros siete miembros de la empresa.
