Dicen que el mayor artificio del Diablo fue hacerle creer a la humanidad que no existía, y yo no podía dejar de pensar en esta frase mientras veía la tercera entrega de Animales Fantásticos. Para tener uno de los elencos y sobre todo una de las guionistas más problemáticas del momento entre sus créditos, esta película casi, casi hace que se nos olvide todo eso, para convertirse en una sincera crítica a la forma en que personas nefastas son legitimadas por nuestra sociedad y colocadas en el poder.
Es precisamente este sinsabor en el fondo de la cabeza, al recordar la obra de quién estamos viendo, lo que resulta menos disfrutable de la cinta. Porque no me malentiendan, aunque Los Secretos de Dumbledore no es ni maravillosa ni innovadora, sí es bastante entretenida. No obstante, también resulta fácil perder el sentido de inmersión con ella. En ocasiones, su trama resulta demasiado cercana a la deplorable realidad política que nos rodea en los últimos tiempos, lo cual no ayuda precisamente a la idea del cine como escape; mientras que en otras, es imposible no sentir que todo es un tanto hipócrita cuando recordamos de dónde vienen los mensajes.
Aún así, si se logra ignorar lo acontecido en el mundo muggle y adentrarse por completo en la magia, les aseguro que no se van a arrepentir. Al menos, van a salir contentos y contentas si son fans del universo de Harry Potter. Hay nostalgia, magia y animales fantásticos por encontrar.
Jude Law hace un increíble papel en la película, aportándole a Dumbledore el carisma que necesita, mientras que Mads Mikkelsen, aunque no me parece tan buen Grindelwald como su antecesor (de quien, de hecho, no soy tan fan) le aporta la severidad requerida al personaje para que se sienta como una fuerza peligrosa. Aún así, considero que lo más débil de la película es la química entre estos dos personajes, a quienes no les creí su romance.
Más allá de eso, no sé qué tanto se puede decir de esta entrega. Quizás resulta un poco menos encantadora que las dos anteriores. Hay menos animales fantásticos, así como momentos tiernos o graciosos. Aunque cuenta con buenos chistes y todos los protagonistas tienen oportunidades para brillar, el foco brinca esta vez a Dumbledore y Grindelwald y la política del mundo mágico.
La ausencia de Tina, para mí, es bastante notoria. Ella era de mis personajes favoritos y aunque aparece, no tiene prácticamente nada de tiempo en pantalla y apenas recita una línea. Los rumores indican que se debe a conflictos detrás de cámara entre la actriz y J.K. Rowling, pero no se sabe mucho. Nada más, el personaje se vuelve prácticamente un extra glorificado en esta tercera historia.
Otro punto en contra, a mi parecer, es que uno de los grandes atractivos de Animales Fantásticos ha sido ver nuevas formas de magia, que expandan el mundo mágico que ya conocemos. En Los Secretos de Dumbledore, casi todo lo que vemos ya ha existido antes, y lo nuevo que hay es o similar a otras cosas o no se explica muy bien. Por eso quizás salí menos entusiasmado que de las otras dos películas anteriores, pero como les digo, a pesar de todo la disfruté bastante.
Finalmente, un gran aspecto a favor es que se explican muchas de las supuestas inconsistencias que algunas personas señalaron en Los Crímenes de Grindelwald. No son explicaciones maravillosas, porque de hecho en la película no hay grandes giros inesperados, pero lo que sucede resulta creíble y ayuda a expandir la historia de los personajes que ya queremos y conocemos.
Con todo eso dicho, yo diría que Animales Fantásticos: Los Secretos de Dumbledore es una película buena, muy entretenida pero no particularmente memorable. Les recomiendo definitivamente verla si son fans de esta saga, llevar bajas expectativas y no pensar en lo problemático que ha sido su detrás de escena, aunque entiendo perfectamente si ya decidieron no dedicarle un minuto más a este mundo.
Al final, la película deja abierta la posibilidad a una continuación, y de ser así, yo la vería. Sin embargo, si aquí se acabara todo, también me sentiría satisfecho con el final. El mundo actual es bastante oscuro, y nunca le cae mal un poco de magia, aunque como dirían por ahí, yo estoy aquí por todas las brujas y no solo las que una señora decida.
