A pesar de que Rockstar Games se ha mantenido cauteloso en cuanto al posible desarrollo de la sexta entrega de Grand Theft Auto, hay cosas que no pueden ocultar, como los registros de patentes. Y una de las últimas que se ha descubierto es un sistema para administrar la conducción de los NPC (non-player character).
Esto ya ha sido interpretado por medios y por fans como un indicador claro de que tal sistema se estaría usando en la nueva entrega de GTA que muchos se encuentran esperando desde hace rato. La patente registrada por Take-Two Entertainment (casa matriz de Rockstar) se denomina «Sistema y método para la conducción virtual en un entorno de juego».
Gracias a este nueva tecnología se puede crear «un mundo virtual realista que no está limitado por limitaciones de hardware y software«. Se especifica en el documento que este sistema se aplica a la movilidad de elementos de transporte como barcos, automóviles y conductores; esto para lograr una simulación más realista e inmersiva.
Otra parte de la patente explica que contará con una navegación virtual y administración de objetos en red multijugador, lo cual señalaría a que (de ser para GTA6) el juego contaría con una experiencia en línea o se aplicaría perfectamente en la plataforma de GTA Online. La patente también incluye una evaluación de las deficiencias de los sistemas actuales de navegación NPC.
