Contrario a lo que uno podría imaginar, este reporte indica que esta decisión no está relacionada directamente a la crisis sanitaria mundial que se vive en estos momentos, pues Sony no habría experimentado problemas en su capacidad de producción; más bien es debido a escasez de algunos componentes y al precio que tendría la consola.
En lo que sí se ha visto principalmente afectado Sony gracias al coronavirus es en asuntos de promoción de su nuevo dispositivo, pero seguirían empeñados en lanzar el PS5 a finales de año, siempre y cuando Microsoft mantenga el lanzamiento de la Xbox Series X en las mismas fechas. Pero ya sabemos que todo puede cambiar dependiendo de cómo siga la pandemia.
De acuerdo con las fuentes de Bloomberg, Sony producirá «de 5 a 6 millones de unidades del PS5 en el año fiscal que termina el 21 de marzo», mientras que PS4 vendió más de 7 millones de unidades en tan solo aproximadamente 5 meses. El reporte también pronostica que el precio fijado para la nueva consola sería entre $499 y $549.
