En The Hand of Merlin, las elecciones son permanentes, las decisiones que toma el jugador tendrán una consecuencia por siempre y serán algo que podría marcar la diferencia en cómo se desenvuelve tanto el entorno como el jugador.
Utilizando combates basados en escuadrones y por turnos, los jugadores pueden emplear tácticas para cubrirse, preparar emboscadas y coordinar ataques para eliminar a sus enemigos.
