La noche de este miércoles, Netflix anunció que las espeluznantes aventuras de Sabrina Spellman llegarán a su fin con su cuarta parte, la cual se estrenará más adelante este año. Esta nueva entrega constará de 8 episodios y tomará inspiración en la obra de H. P. Lovecraft, de donde saldrán los villanos a los que la bruja adolescente y su aquelarre deberán enfrentarse antes de concluir con su historia.
«Trabajar en Chilling Adventures of Sabrina ha sido un honor increíble para mí desde el primer día», comentó el showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa en el comunicado oficial de la cancelación. «El elenco, comenzando por Kiernan [Shipka] como la bruja adolescente favorita de todos, ha sido una absoluta alegría. Estoy mucho más que agradecido con el equipo de producción, escritores, editores, asistentes y todo el mundo por agregarle tanto amor a este mundo oscuro que es el show. Estoy también muy agradecido con nuestros colegas en Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television y Archie Comics por permitirnos contar la historia que queríamos contar, de la forma en que queríamos contarla. No podemos esperar para que todos vean la cuarta parte».
Sabrina realmente transmitió únicamente dos temporadas en la plataforma de streaming, divididas cada una en dos partes. Esta es una estrategia que maneja Netflix con algunos programas, para aprovechar mejor sus contenidos y manejar el presupuesto en sus producciones. Al recibir Netflix sus ganancias mayoritariamente a travñes de suscripciones mensuales, le conviene más distribuir los capítulos de sus series a lo largo del tiempo para mantener la atención de su audiencia. Las partes número 3 y 4 de Chilling Adventures of Sabrina recibieron la luz verde a finales del 2018 en conjunto y consistieron de 16 capítulos en total. Los últimos 8 serán los que veremos más adelante en el 2020.
Esta noticia forma parte de una serie de anuncios sobre la cancelación de series originales de Netflix este mes. Ozark, Dead To Me y The Kominsky Method también anunciaron que sus próximas temporadas serían las finales durante los primeros 8 días del mes de julio, por lo que no sería de extrañar que haya más sorpresas de parte de la plataforma de streaming en las próximas semanas.
