Recientemente se había anunciado que el actor de Cobra Kai, Xolo Maridueña, estaba en conversaciones para protagonizar la próxima película Blue Beetle de HBO Max. Este lunes por la noche se confirmó su elección ya que el actor estuvo presente en la alfombra roja del estreno de The Suicide Squad.
Según un tweet de Aaron Couch de The Hollywood Reporter, Maridueña se enteró de que se había ganado el papel la noche anterior, en una cena con el director Angel Manuel Soto y ejecutivos de Warner Bros.
La película Blue Beetle seguirá a Jaime, quien en los cómics es el tercer personaje en asumir el papel de Blue Beetle tras la muerte de Ted Kord. Los informes sobre el casting de Maridueña indican que se espera que la película comience la producción a principios del próximo año.
Creado por Keith Giffen, John Rogers y Cully Hammer, la historia de Jaime cambió significativamente la tradición de Blue Beetle, revelando que el escarabajo egipcio que le da poderes al héroe es en realidad de origen alienígena y proporciona una especie de armadura extraterrestre. Finalmente, Jaime se convertiría en miembro de la Liga de la Justicia, la Liga de la Justicia Internacional, Teen Titans, Young Justice y Secret Six.
