Square Enix ha anunciado la última entrada principal de la serie Dragon Quest. Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate se reveló en una transmisión en vivo para celebrar el 35 aniversario de la serie. No se reveló mucho más allá del logotipo y el título del juego, pero el creador de la serie Yuji Horii insinuó algunos cambios en el sistema de batalla tradicional por turnos, y dijo que Square Enix apuntaba a un lanzamiento mundial simultáneo.
Dragon Quest es una de las series de juegos de rol más populares de Japón. El último juego, Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age, se lanzó para PlayStation 4 y 3DS en su mercado local en 2017. El lanzamiento occidental original solo llegó a PS4 y PC. Se lanzó una versión actualizada, Dragon Quest XI S, para Nintendo Switch y luego llegó a Xbox, PS4, PC y Stadia. Square Enix también anunció cinco nuevos títulos más de Dragon Quest durante la transmisión.

- Dragon Quest X Offline, una versión X que no requiere conexión a Internet
- Dragon Quest Keshikeshi, un juego de rompecabezas para dispositivos móviles
